Duration
The duration of jeep safaris depend largely on the destinations that are
to be covered. Jeep safaris in wildlife sanctuaries or forested regions may
last for a day or two only. But safaris through the rugged terrains in the
Himalayan region or deserts of Rajasthan may extend to weeks. In any case,
jeep safaris are shorter in duration than some other safaris like camel
safaris.
Safaris in Rajasthan Deserts
Jeep safaris are also conducted in the desert regions of Rajasthan. A Jeep
Safari is considered the most ideal way of exploring the wonders of
Rajasthan. The main regions covered are Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur and the
Shekhawati regions. A few Jeep safaris also include the popular wildlife
sanctuaries of Rajasthan in their itinerary. Though the main focus is the
desert, the monuments falling in the route may also be covered. The safaris
also halt in villages near to the desert region enabling the tourists to
acquaint with the lifestyle of the desert people. Most jeep safaris in the
desert region are organized for one -two week duration.
Jeep Safari In Ladakh
Jeep safari at the high altitude lake of India is another new attraction
that has recently come up in this adventure activity. The high point trip of
a trip to Leh is the drive to Pangong Lake. The drive takes round about four
hours to Changla Pass. At the first sight of the lake through the 'V' of the
ridges of the valley all cameras, digital videos etc. came tumbling out. The
azure lake beautifully set off the golden yellow of the mountainside,
painted thus by the mellow rays of the evening sun, on a canvas of crisp
blue sky. Considered to be the most arduous and at the same time
exhilarating is the cross country jeep drive to the Pong valley.
Spiti Jeep Safari
Himachal Pradesh bests of the highest peaks of the Himalayas. Kinnaur being
the highest. Spiti boasts of the largest number of monasteries in the world
and the world's highest wildlife reserve, the land of the snow leopards,
ibex and the golden eagle. Lahaul is the land of the glaciers. The area
offers beautiful mountain panoramas and a wide spectrum of activities,
adventure, leisure, culture, religion, tribals, temples and wildlife.
Four-wheel drive, jeeps with driver and local escort and used in this
program. Most drives are on blacktop roads. Usually two to three persons can
be comfortably seated in one jeep. Accommodations are in good first class
hotels to tented camps but few nights are at rather basic guest
houses/tented camps. This tour is offered in July and September with fixed
departure dates and will operate with a minimum of five passengers, with a
local escort. If you are a party of four or more traveling together, this
tour can be arranged on a private basis with a local escort.
