Equipment & Baggage consideration during Trekking tour in India General Considerations These are some of the essential guidelines for the member's own benefit; Keep the weight and bulk down to a minimum. Baggage allowances on most International flights are 20 Kgs. (44 lbs.) Don't bring lot of clothing for cities. One or two changes are all one needs and casual clothing is acceptable in all hotels. Minimize expenses by checking what you already own. Mountain Adventure Tours in India provides you with a Two Men Tent, Sleeping Mat, Kitchen Tent, Dinning Tent, Toilet Tent, Kitchen Utensils and Field Staff to look after you during the trekking. The following is an equipment checklist. It covers what we consider essential items plus some we have marked as * Optional but you can add to it if you think it necessary. Generally, however, we find that trekkers tend to bring more than they need so try to keep it to a minimum. Remember also that you will have to fit your sleeping bag into your trekking kit bag. <> Lightweight Walking Boots - Be sure to wear them well before you trek. - Ensure that they have plenty of toe room <> A pair of Running Shoes or Joggers and Rafting Sandals <> Polar Plus Jacket * (used for trips in the mountains) <> Rainproof Jacket with hood - Get a good one that is guaranteed waterproof and windproof, preferably thigh length. Gore-Tex is excellent. Thin nylon sailing jackets are not adequate for Himalayan conditions. <> Woolen Sweater <> A pair of Lightweight Pants or Long Shorts for Daytime Wear - Jeans are not recommended for trekking. A light skirt is an excellent alternative to shorts for women and culturally much more acceptable. <> 2 Pairs of Warm Track Pants * Thermal Underwear - We recommend long sleeved vest and long johns. <> Windproof / Waterproof Overpants <> 3 - 4 Cotton T-shirt's <> Lightweight long-sleeved Shirt * Optional especially for those prone to sunburns <> Woolen Hats <> Wool Gloves <> Sun-hat - If you burn easily we recommend a scarf or something to cover your neck. <> Thongs or Sandals for camp * Optional <> 2-3 pairs thin and 4 Pairs Thick Woolen Socks <> Underwear & Swimsuit <> Sunglasses <> 2 Water Bottles (One Liter capacity)- we recommend SIGG or NILGEN Brands. <> Day-Pack -You need a medium sized pack to carry items you will need during the day, such as camera, water bottle, sweater, sunscreen. Ensure it has comfortable and strong shoulder and waist straps. <> Snow Gaiters * optional - It is likely that these will not be needed but snow can fall at any time and if it does they are essential. <> 2 Extra Large / Extra Thick Plastic garbage Bag Liners -These should be used to line your personal equipment's in your Kit Bags to ensure your gear stays absolutely dry. <> Small Plastic Bags or Stuff Sacks or Pillow Cases * Optional <> To separate and keep the gear in your kitbag in order. Also good rubbish bags each day on the trail. <> Small Sewing Kit * Optional <> Money Belt * Optional <> Toiletries Try to buy biodegradable soap and shampoo, usually available from camping or health food stores. Note: toilet paper is provided during camping trips. <> Towel - medium size and light weight <> Small Flashlight or headlamp and Spare Batteries <> "Thermarest" Sleeping mat * Optional <> Mountain Adventure Tours in India provides you with sleeping mat but a Thermarest are an added luxury you may want to bring! They are excellent. <> Cigarette Lighter - for burning toilet paper and rubbish or Waterproof Matches. <> Camera & Films - Camera Films protection lead bags for avoiding damage during routine x-rays at the airports. <> Wool Scarves * Optional <> Penknife or Swiss Knife * Optional <> Personal medical Supplies <> Personal Diary, Playing Cards, Games, Books etc * Optional <> Umbrella * Optional Makes a great sunshade at lunch! What you carry during adventure trips? You should consider carrying extra warm clothing, a rain jacket, water bottle, film and camera gear, valuables and personal items such as sunscreen, lipase etc. All group gear is carried by porters or by ponies. Storage of gear Excess gear may be stored at the Hotel at the entry point (please check with your Trip Manager about this) The members are advised to make sure that any item left in the storage is clearly labeled and locked. Expensive valuables can be locked in member's personal baggage under lock and key, while members are away on trip. We will not be held responsible for the gear left in the storage.
